A few days escape to South Lakes

In desperate need to recharge the batteries I found a last minute deal on LateRooms for a hotel in Grange over Sands, South Cumbria, so off we set last Sunday. The weather was absolutely lovely for the 3 days before returning to this smoggy stuff.

The hotel, whilst a bit faded around the edges, offered us a super view across to Morecambe Bay from our top floor room.

Grange over Sands had a lovely little park with a great selection of ducks and geese for such a small park.

The wonders of nature with the curve in this tree.

Grange has a wonderful long promenade running by the side of Morecambe Bay and provides a lovely walk into the village and by the side of the quaint railway station.

I hadn't been to Morecambe before so we made a visit and bumped into Mr. Morecambe!

Morecambe had a very interesting piece of architecture in the form of the Midland Hotel, art deco style. A little faded at the edges but obviously had been very grand in its day. I love the curvature and clean lines of the building.

If you're into fabric like me and you visit Morecambe, you must seek out Warehouse 13. It doesn't look much outside

but go inside and you will find a lovely drink and cake

then you can browse lovely gifts and upstairs is an amazing selection of fabrics with a big table of scraps and top quality fat quarters for just £1.50.

No trip to the south Lakes is complete without a stroll along the edge of Lake Windermere.

We then took Bob for an ice cream as he was getting peckish but he's a bit of a rascal and couldn't eat it all so I had to finish it off!

On the trip back we stopped somewhere else I hadn't been to before, Farfield Mill at Sedbergh. It's a gallery, cafe, artists studios and craft demonstrations, mainly weaving. I wanted to see weaving but check before you go as weaving only happens on certain days and sadly not the day we drove back.

There's a lovely view from the top of the mill, it's on 4 floors.

Various weaving looms and gallery spaces.

I bought some locally spun and dyed wool.

The mill has a library section with donated art and craft books, lots of interesting books and some old out of print ones but those are quite expensive.

Thanks for sticking it out to the end if you made it!

Oooh I enjoyed that! Love the statue of Eric Morecambe. I have a thing about art deco properties too, not too many of them about - I'm sure that's why I watched Hercule Poirot! It seems like a lovely break with lots of enjoyable things packed in. I'm off to Bath for 2 days next week as I've never been. Hope to recharge my batteries like you.
